Supporting Students & Parents
Reading isn’t just an enjoyable pastime—it’s an absolute necessity in today’s information-driven society. This is why Wilson has been committed to literacy development since the mid-1980s.
Our goal is the same as yours: to help students become fluent, independent readers. Wilson’s multisensory, structured literacy curricula promote reading and spelling achievement for students across three tiers of instruction. Wilson also offers extensive professional learning to support implementation of each program with fidelity.
Based on Orton-Gillingham principles of instruction, as well as other research-based principles of instruction found to increase student achievement, each program is tailored to a particular student population:
-
Fundations®: For grades K-3 general education students and struggling or at-risk readers in the lowest 30th percentile.
-
Just Words®: For grades 4-12 students and adults who are decoding and encoding below grade level.
-
Wilson Reading System® (WRS): For grades 2-12 students and adults who are not making sufficient progress in intervention or who may require more intensive instruction due to a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia.
Through our professional learning opportunities, thousands of educators have developed the practical skills and knowledge to guide their students in achieving literacy for life.
Parental or guardian involvement is important for all students, whether they are just learning to read and write, are struggling with literacy, or have been diagnosed with a learning disability. We encourage you to stay informed about what is going on in your children’s school by communicating with their teachers and talking directly with your children about what they are learning in class. Families dealing with the challenges of dyslexia may also be interested in exploring our resources or connecting with an advocacy group for further support.
Wilson has transformed the lives of many students by giving them the literacy skills and confidence to pursue their dreams. If you have a Wilson success story to share, we would love to hear about it! Please contact us to share your or your child’s experience.

Tom's tenacity ultimately made him the perfect Wilson student. When we finished Step 4.2, Tom wanted to keep going 'because reading is fun.' Eventually Tom went through all twelve steps successfully. . . . [In 2013] he graduated from SUNY Purchase with a B.A. degree in Arts Management. -Tom K. Senior Parent in NY
